I am the proud owner of a Girl Scout!

Jadyn started Brownies this past Monday and already is loving it! She already wants to go to sleepaway camp =(. I don't think mommy is ready for this growing up stuff yet..so bittersweet.

Got Crayons?

Recycle them! We bought the kids new crayons to start off the school year with, but we were left with lots and lots of old broken ones that I just didn't have the heart to throw out. So we recycled them, into new chunky crayons. Now we have new crayons and new chunky crayons! Less trash in the landfills, more fun for us! we took our old crayons, peeled them and chopped them up, then we put them in mini muffin tins and put them in the oven at 250 degrees until the were all melty

You can use all one color and make solids or mix the colors up to make rainbow crayons.

After the wax is all melty put the muffin tins in the freezer for a while until they are all cool and solid again. Then just pop them out and you have funky chunky crayons!

Native Americans

This week we studied Native Americans. We learned about Christopher Columbus and made little wigwams, read Squanto, and the kids made dinner one night from a Native American cookbook I found..lots of pictures in this post so I hope you enjoy them! Memory Verse for the week

Beach Collection Jars

Just for fun during the summer we made Beach Collection Jars. These jars stay at home (because they are glass) and we collect pretty shells, rocks, beach glass or whatever else interests us when we go exploring on the beach. When we get home we put them in our jars. First we washed out some spaghetti sauce jars, any large glass jar will do

Then we ripped up tissue paper into long skinny pieces, this was the kids favorite part, we used blue, but you can use any color you'd like

soak the tissue paper in white glue and apply to your jar. Sticking your tongue out during this process is extremely helpful!

Finished Jars!! FABULOUS! We tied some raffia around the tops later on after they dried, but you can decorate the finished project any way you wish..

School Starts~Cambric Tea

We actually did this over the summer, but it was very educational so I wanted to include it with a school post. =) I have been reading Farmer Boy to the kids this summer and they wanted to know what Cambric Tea was so I made them some. Tea and Honey

Mom's Birthday
